Holo-Earth

3D, VFX, Interaction Design

01 ABOUT

This is the concept for an interactive video screen that might be used in a museum, fair or exhibition. It simulates the bridge of a spaceship scanning our planet. The simulation starts when the viewer enters the detection area, and gives him the option to choose between various layers of information using a smartphone as well as various gestures and movements.

03 PROCESS

From a technical point of view the simulation consists of about 50 video- and audio-layers set to play at specific interactions. The layers and animations were created in Cinema 4D and Adobe After Effects, exported with transparent background, and played back in Resolume Arena 5, which is connected to a Microsoft Kinect and the users smartphone. The screen itself is semitransparent, uses two projectors, and has the somewhat strange resolution of 1792 x 768, therefore requiring a very wide aspect ratio.
